6 April 2002,

They came, they observed and they learned. The 3rd official meeting of the MYWAVE members was attended by about 20 CG buffs of which many were students, this time. With the absence of our usual chairman, Ahmed, who was in Jeddah, the meeting was chaired by Tan Jin Ho instead.

Our 3D animator, Lee Wee Chong, took the first session and demonstrated the techniques of modeling faces and surfacing using UV mapping. This was followed by a brief session of questions and answers, which generated a question or two from the rather tame and passive crowd who turned up.

As usual we took a short break for our compulsory ‘teh-tarik’ and resumed the meeting with the 2nd session, which was taken by our Sr. Multimedia Consultant, Shaharudeen Chua. While many were probably wondering what Scala had to do with a LightWave User group, we figured it would be useful to show members how to piece or compile LightWave animation into a CD-ROM to be used as a show reel or sales kit, using alternative authoring tools such as Scala.

Chua introduced the new Scala InfoChannel Designer 3 and highlighted several new features such as the alpha transparency and opacity, and text crawls. Chua also demonstrated the techniques of designing a simple interactive presentation using Scala.

The Topics covered

  • Character Modeling and texturing
    - This session covers advance techniques for modeling faces and surfacing using UV mapping techniques.
  • Presenting your profile using Multimedia production software.

As usual, we will be releasing more tips sharing more useful information in the next round of the MYWAVE meeting so remember to join us for the 4th session in May.

Lastly, for those who would like to join us at the next meeting but have still yet to sign up for membership, we do welcome your registration.
