Video Toaster [2] is structured to have all modules
as plug-ins to the program. This means the underlying architecture
is extremely flexible and interactive. This also allows all popular
video and graphic file types to be easily recognized and shared
between components. All components can be easily replaced by a third-party
module at a later date. The interface is 'skinned', meaning that
modules can be customized at any time with new images or specialized
functions. The foundation has been laid for easy third party inclusion
and incredible future expansions!
Real Time
Any and all functions of Video Toaster [2] are provided in real
time, including live switching, audio mixing, color correction and
ToasterEdit project playback.
DV native support
Yes, campers, Video Toaster [2] will allow you to bring in a DV
clip via Firewire, and drop the clip into the storyboard for editing,
or onto the switcher as a source. This means video storage is increased
by a factor of 6. Not earth-shattering by itself, but then step
back and look at the power that gives you in ONE box. Video Toaster
[2] is now able to handle every project thrown your way, from long-form
events to Network-quality commercials & 3D.
Uncompressed
Network-quality pristine uncompressed 601 video means any project
for any client can be accepted. Let your creativity shine and never
worry about artifacts or noise again.
Compressed
Not everything needs the royal touch. Video Toaster [2] gives you
freedom to make the most of your storage and work on long-form events.
From highly-compressed quarter-screen captures to DV to uncompressed,
it's all available to you. The following formats are just some that
can be captured directly in Video Toaster [2]:
- Uncompressed AVI
- Variable AVI compression
- WindowsMedia
- Indeo video 5.10
- MJPEG
- Cinepack Codec by Radius
- Intel 4:2:0
- Video v2.50
These NTSC/PAL captures can be made in
full-screen or half-screen; interlaced or progressive frames; 29.97
or 14.98 frames per second. Whether your intended output is TV,
VCD, or the Internet, you can now capture to allow the best quality
for your final content.
Internet Streaming
Flexibility, that's what it's about. Only Video Toaster [2] can
offer Internet streaming of both a live switch and a produced project,
or any combination of the two.
SX-8 Live Switching Module
8 component or 8 Y/C or 24 composite inputs or a mix of the three
can be switched live to tape, to disk or to the Internet. Anyone
who has plugged a video cable into a switcher will be right at home
with Toaster [2]'s on-screen switcher, which is powerful enough
for Hollywood movies and broadcast TV, yet affordable enough for
your school, your church or yourself. The world's most versatile
breakout-box has 100 connectors for composite, Y/C and component
video, balanced and unbalanced audio, and data control. It's a 5
Unit-high rack mountable beauty.
ToasterEdit
The ease of a Storyboard; the precision of a Timeline. Or both.
It's all seamlessly integrated in ToasterEdit. Fast, fun and easy
are the hallmarks of ToasterEdit, begun more than 7 years ago, by
video editors who know what you need for meat-and-potatoes editing.
This newest version is an editor that gives you tremendous power,
thanks to its direct edit interface.
Proc Amps
When performing a multi-camera shoot, it is important that the color,
brightness and tint of all cameras match. Each input will have its
own configurable/savable processing amplifier, or proc amp. Normally
a feature of time base correctors, this ensures that even low-end
cameras lacking adjustment controls can be properly matched. For
utter simplicity, you can assign your proc amps to be active on
whatever input you currently have on the Preview or Program bus.
Challenging lighting situations have met their match on live events
with Video Toaster [2].
Internal TBC/Genlock
Video Toaster saves money for users on several fronts, and this
is one. Until Video Toaster, live switching required cameras to
be externally synced using time base correctors, and then each camera
had to be locked to the same sync pulse through the camera's genlock
input. Video Toaster's internal genlock capabilities means any camera
can be used in a multi-cam environment, from disposable web cams
all the way to component broadcast cameras.
Toaster Script
All the power of C++ in a simple text script! Great ease of adding
or modifying hotkeys to anything you'd like them to be, and customize
menus. ToasterScript allows you to easily assign a sequence to a
key, customize the sizes of modules, and it is the keys to the kingdom
for all those brilliant third-party programmers out there! Customize
the right-mouse button for any module or skin you wish
In the
future, look for midi support to communicate to external hardware,
and much more!
Toaster Vision
Silky-smooth, 60-field-per-second video displayed right on your
toaster desktop. Have up to three Toaster Vision monitors open at
once, allowing you to constantly monitor your Preview, Program Out,
Program In and Key busses without the need of expensive external
monitors. You can also select to view any channel in regular or
underscan mode. All sources can be viewed in 4:3 aspect or 16:9
aspect at any time.
ToasterScope
Adjusting incoming video is nearly impossible by just 'eyeballing'
it, so Video Toaster [2] offers full professional verification of
your signals, via ToasterScope. 60-field-per-second analysis of
the signal gives you capabilities not found in software before.
ToasterScope offers Composite (Y/C, Y or C) and Component (YUV or
RGB) Waveform and 75% or 100% Vectorscope views. Count on ToasterScope
to give you objective information in real time.
Batch Capture
If your deck is controllable, we can probably control it: 3 RS-422
ports on the SX-8 and control of your Firewire decks or cameras.
Stillstore
At the heart of any ENG system is the Stillstore. TGA, TIFF, BMP,
JPEG or any still image in your system can be dropped onto the DDR
or quickly called up from the bin to be used in your live switch
or production. Photo montages have never been easier.
SX-8
Hardware
This is the heart of the Video Toaster [2] Switcher, offering component,
Y/C or composite ins and outs, along with audio and machine control.
Virtual Patchbay
Plugging and unplugging gear to your editor can become pretty tiresome.
The onscreen patch bay allows you to plug everything into the SX-8
switcher and forget it. Video Toaster [2] also gives you format
independence, allowing you to input your Firewire, Y/C or composite
signals and output them to component. Go ahead, hook up your cameras,
recorders or A/V gear, and then in software, choose where it goes
on the switcher. Arrange it in a way that makes sense to the project
at hand.
DVE's
2D wipes, 3D pushes and sophisticated 3D Digital Video Effects come
with every Video Toaster system
hundreds of them. From simple
to sublime, NewTek gives you a wide variety to keep you happy. What's
more, creative talent outside of NewTek is busily generating a host
of wipe themes to later add to your system. For quick verification
of a transitions behavior , mouse over any DVE crouton for instant
playback.
LightWave Express
Video producers finally have an easy, and friendly interface to
create flying logos and gorgeous 3D animations. A friendly Front
end (like a wizard in many programs) will offer whatever level of
assistance you need to create stunning 3-Dimensional imagery. Start,
armed with only a 3D object, and LightWave Express will walk you
through all the possible options, including fog, flares or even
explosions! After answering all the questions, all that's left is
to render your animation and get paid! Of course, if you have specific
needs or are already comfortable in LightWave, then dive right in!
The powerfully fast LightWave 6.5 render engine is purring under
the hood, ready to take on your biggest video projects!
Toaster DDR
This is one of the most powerful digital decks you'll get your hands
on. The Digi-Vid 2001 Digital Disk Recorder is a key component in
Video Toaster [2]'s tool chest, offering drag-and-drop playback
of any video clips or stills in your system. In and out points can
be quickly set for each clip, and the DDR can be easily assigned
to any input on your switcher. DDR's way-cool Cue feature actually
links the Deck's playback with the Switcher, going from clip to
transition, and then on to the next clip! Set up a bank of Transitions
on the Switcher, turn on Advance, and now Switcher will advance
both clip list playback AND the effects used between them. Imagine
having all your cutaway shots ready to go on a live switch, so you
can instantly transition between live cams, to some b-roll, and
back again. Coooool!
ToasterCG
Of course, any TV studio wouldn't be complete without a full-featured
and professional Character Generator offering real time scrolls,
crawls, multi-layered elements, soft shadows and much more. Styles
can be loaded with a single click of the mouse, and affect not only
your TrueType font collection, but any drawing object you create
in ToasterCG, such as boxes, circles, and spline curves. Set up
your CG pages quickly, with the aid of ToasterVision, since you
can have live video or a looping clip directly in ToasterCG's window
while you compose.
Chroma Keyer
Yes, live, real time keying in an affordable and simple to use package
awaits you in Video Toaster [2]. Remove backgrounds in real time
and replace it with a video clip, a LightWave animation, or even
a gorgeous virtual set. Take your productions to the next step since
Video Toaster [2] brings you component quality and uncompressed
video for the finest keys available.
File Bins
Much more than what you'd ordinarily expect of an editor and 'bins',
Video Toaster allows you to store clips in ordinary file folders,
moving them directly into Flyer for editing. Setting in and out
points on a clip in any location will be remembered when you drag
and drop to any location, whether that's to the editor, the switcher,
the DDR, or even the desktop.
Configurable Interface
Launching Video Toaster [2] brings up all your components precisely
where you left them (since it's the most efficient way to work).
Even better, Toaster realizes that many people in rental facilities
or schools will have many users sharing the equipment. User logins
allow everyone to enjoy continuity of workflow from one day to the
next.
Free Tech Support
and we're not talking about some cheesy 'better figure out
what you don't know in 30 or 90 days', either. NewTek happily supports
its customers at no charge for as long as you own the software!
If it's a middle-of-the-night or weekends problem, that doesn't
have to be a crisis, either, as NewTek has one of the friendliest
online communities available via web, e-mail or Usenet. Fellow professionals
take great joy helping each other squeeze every bit of power out
of this friendly and flexible system.
Multiple Desktops
NewTek recommends a dual-monitor system, but realizes that sometimes
there's not the space or budget to allow that. Video Toaster [2]
gives you SIX separate desktops to hold all your components. Talk
about huge tracts of
real-estate! Each one is a mouse-click
or hotkey away. You can also hide Toaster components on any desktop
without unloading it.
Audio Mixer
We realize how important audio production is for Live and Post environments,
and once you see Video Toaster's impressive audio mixer. Mic inputs
with phantom power, line inputs, full patchable configuration, auto
transitions, and much more allow you to have full control of the
situation:
- Treble, Bass and Pan for each channel
- Aux sends and receives
- Mono, Solo, mute for each channel
- Input and output grouping
- User configurations saved/recalled any time
- Auto-transition multiple channels with one
button
Color Picker
Not just ANY color picker, Video Toaster allows you to drag any
color onto anything in Toaster, such as a video clip, bin, even
a desktop! Now have instant visual verification for rapid action,
when you need to choose between similar items. It's all about letting
you work in a way that makes sense to you.
Background Generator
The XMP-24 Background Generator is a snap to configure backgrounds
for editing or live switching. Choose a solid color by dragging
a color dot over from the color picker, or just as easily create
horizontal and vertical gradients, and even a four-color gradient,
with a custom color at each corner. Your settings are recalled each
time you open it, or you can load and save as many customized settings
as you need.
Downstream Key
The Video Toaster's downstream keyer allows you to throw a bug logo,
or lower-third on screen that remains unaffected by switching sources
or digital video effects wiping between them. This is not an expensive
option, but a standard feature ready to work for you.
External Control
This rather compact interface provides you with all the functionality
of deck control right on screen. Decks hooked up to Video Toaster
[2] via either Serial Ports or the SX-8 module's RS-422 Ports can
be played, paused, rewound or activate a recording session on-screen.
DV Control
If you have DV, DVCam or DVCPro decks or cameras, you can remotely
control pause, play, rewind and stop functions onscreen while you
capture your media.
