Features Downstream Key
Downstream keying is something you frequently see on the networks, and is quite useful for both live switching and content protection.
A downstream key, or DSK, is the ability to display a lower-third, a ‘LIVE’ designation in the corner or even your company logo on screen. Where this differs from normal CG is you can perform dissolves, transitions or even 3D or trajectory transitions between sources without affecting this graphics layer. Since Team Toaster is comprised of award-winning video producers, we felt it important to give you sophisticated control of your downstream key in Video Toaster [2].

Many useful abilities normally requiring an effects memory row are possible, including uninterrupted display of a choice of inputs, including Aura 2, a Digital Disk Recorder (DDR), or Toaster CG.

The flexibility of using the DDR or Aura as a downstream key means that you still have Toaster CG available, and you can continue to have text and graphics change with sources while your DSK layer remains.

There is a manual fader to bring the DSK on and off, but thanks to the integrated power of Toaster Script, you can use hotkeys to transition several ways:

  • Fade the DSK on or off at the same rate as you dissolve sources.
  • Fade the DSK in our out independent of any other source activity
  • Take on or off of the DSK in a cut
  • Keep key messages, subject headers or your client’s logo on screen while you continue switching. It’s easy, its useful, and it’s yours with Video Toaster [2].
